FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (October 14, 2010) – Parents and expectant parents are invited to attend several informative classes offered by the Maternity Center at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Prepared Childbirth Class - This course, recommended for women 20 to 28 weeks into pregnancy, provides an eight hour childbirth education class that teaches mom and her partner about what to expect during labor and delivery. The instructor will discuss the stages of labor, relaxation, breathing techniques, common concerns, comfort measures and much more. Participants will need to bring two pillows and a blanket or towel. The fee for the course is $100 and includes light refreshments. The class will be held Saturday, October 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the 1279 Building, 3rd floor. Baby Basics - This is a two hour class providing information and guidance related to the care of the newborn. Topics discussed will include diapering, burping, feeding, calming a fussy baby, immunizations, cord care, circumcision and signs of illness. Offered monthly, the next class is Tuesday, October 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The class will be held in the 1279 Building, 3rd floor and the cost is $10. Registration is required. Baby Dayz – This monthly informational group offers support and solutions to all your parenting and newborn questions during the first months. An educational speaker will present a new topic each month. The class meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Fayette County Public Library in Fayetteville. The next class is Tuesday, November 9, at 10 a.m. Babies up to 6 months old are welcome and a certified lactation consultant will be available. The class is free and registration not required. Breastfeeding Basics - The Maternity Center at Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers a three hour group participation discussion on the benefits and how-to's of breastfeeding. This class includes preparing for breastfeeding and getting started in the hospital and at home, special situations and growing a breastfeeding family. The class is best if done prior to delivery, but participants are welcome at any time. Fathers and grandparents are welcomed and encouraged to attend also. Maternity Center Tours – Each month the Maternity Center at Piedmont Fayette Hospital welcomes expectant mothers and their families to take a tour of the facility. The tour will provide information on the hospital's approach to maternity care and how physicians and staff help new mothers and their babies before and after delivery. Expectant mothers and their support partners are welcome. This month, tours will be offered Saturday, October 16 and Monday, October 25, at 6 p.m. Participants should enter through the hospital West Entrance and tours begin in the Maternity Center lobby, on the third floor. Fayette County Safe Kids Child Passenger Safety Training Class - Fayette County Safe Kids will offer a car seat safety class to teach parents how to keep children safe, especially while traveling by car. The next course will be offered Monday, November 8, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the 1279 Building, 3rd floor. This class is offered for $10 the second Monday of each month. Sibling Class - Siblings ages three to ten, accompanied by a parent, are welcome to attend. The class includes a brief tour of the hospital, and covers the adjustments of becoming a big brother or big sister, as well as what happens to the mother while she is in the hospital. The next course will be offered Saturday, November 6, from 2 to 3 p.m. This class is offered for $10.
