Piedmont's longstanding leadership in spinal surgery stems from thousands of successful treatments involving the newest specialized procedures and technology.
Our spine surgeons treat congenital spine deformities, such as scoliosis, as well as problems caused by trauma or degenerative conditions (such as spine fractures, herniated or ruptured discs) and spinal stenosis. New technology offers more sophisticated fixation devices, metal plates and rods to hold the corrected spine in place as it heals, and the use of BMP (bone morphogenetic protein-2) to speed healing. Surgical advances include micro-endoscopic disc surgery (removing herniated discs through tiny incisions) and correcting severe spinal deformities by operating from the front and back of the spine in a single surgery, instead of two separate surgeries performed months apart. Patients benefit from less-invasive incisions and shorter recovery times.
Surgery for back pain (including lumbar disc surgery) and neck pain are also among Piedmont's specialty areas.
