Jasper, Ga. (March 4, 2013) – Piedmont Mountainside Hospital will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new emergency department and inpatient bed expansions on Monday, March 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The free event is open to the public. Members of the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce will perform the official ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.

The new emergency room facility, which sits in front of the hospital, and the expansion of inpatient rooms is part of a $10 million expansion for Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

“We are thrilled to show the community the new emergency department and added inpatient rooms,” said Denise Ray, president and chief administrative officer at Piedmont Mountainside. “Our former emergency department was simply too small to handle the number of patients needing medical attention. This expansion will help us address the needs of our growing community.”

The former emergency department was designed to handle around 12,000 to 14,000 patients a year; but in the past year, the emergency room at Piedmont Mountainside saw 22,000 emergency room visits. The heavy demand for emergency services pushed the hospital over capacity and increased wait times.

Piedmont Mountainside’s new emergency department has a total of 18 beds, 15 emergency room beds and 3 fast-track beds. The hospital has added 10 inpatient beds bringing the total to 52 inpatient beds.

“It’s an exciting time at Piedmont Mountainside and we’d like Pickens county residents to share in our excitement,” said Ray. “The expansion of the hospital is a reflection of our community’s growth. Join us to tour your new hospital facilities.”
