STOCKBRIDGE/ATLANTA (December 22, 2011) – As Henry Medical Center becomes Piedmont Henry Hospital on January 1, the Henry Medical Center Board of Directors will be reconstituted as determined by the terms of partnership agreed to by Henry Medical Center, Piedmont Healthcare and the Hospital Authority of Henry County in August. Those board members have been agreed upon except for one position to be named after the first board meeting.
“We are confident that these board members will work to ensure that Piedmont Henry Hospital continues to serve its community, delivers high quality healthcare and remains financially healthy,” said Greg Hurst, president of finance and development for Piedmont Healthcare and chair of the Piedmont Henry Hospital Board of Directors.

Tom Arnold, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Piedmont Hospital: Tom Arnold is responsible for the overall financial performance and all aspects of the day-to-day fiscal management of Piedmont Hospital, including financial strategic initiatives, revenue cycle improvements, supply chain enhancements and access to care. Arnold is a Henry County resident and a seasoned financial executive with more than 24 years of experience in healthcare.
Ronnie Brownsworth, M.D., Executive Vice President of Piedmont Healthcare and CEO of the Piedmont Clinic: Ronnie Brownsworth, M.D., joined Piedmont Healthcare in 2008. Dr. Brownsworth oversees activities of the more than 800-member Piedmont Clinic, including the Piedmont Physicians Group with more than 150 primary care physicians in over 50 offices, in addition to more than 20 specialists in over 15 locations across greater Atlanta. The clinic manages payer negotiations and contracts for the physicians, and its membership comes together to enhance and monitor the quality of physician-provided care across the Piedmont system.
Gregory A. Hurst, President, Finance and Development, Piedmont Healthcare (Chairman): Greg Hurst has held several senior executive positions during his 11 years at Piedmont Healthcare. He currently serves as president of finance and development. In this role, he has overall responsibility for financial operations and strategic market development. Hurst has over 28 years experience in various senior healthcare management positions.
Steve Kay: For 16 years Steve Kay has served Henry Medical Center in various roles. Kay was originally appointed as a member of the Hospital Authority, has served on the Operating Board including two terms as chair and was a member of the hospital’s Affiliation Steering Committee. Kay is a graduate of Georgia Tech. He has been employed with Georgia Power Company for the past 29 years, most recently in the position of residential market manager for Georgia.
Charles J. (Jeff) Mills: Jeff Mills joined the hospital’s Operating Board in 2004. Mills chaired the hospital’s Affiliation Steering Committee. Mills is a distinguished graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from MIT, and an MBA from Long Island University. Following 23 years of military service, Mills retired as a Colonel in 1990. In addition, he retired as the director of projects from Jordan, Jones & Goulding/Jacobs Engineering in 2010.
Kay Pippin, President, Henry County Chamber of Commerce: Kay Pippin began her service to the hospital in 2008 as a member of the Henry Health System Board. She also served as a member of the hospital’s Affiliation Steering Committee. In addition to her role as president of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce in which she has served for the past 10 years, she also manages Henry County’s Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Gopal Rao, M.D.: Dr. Gopal Rao is president and CEO of Atlanta Heart Associates, P.C., and has provided care for the Henry County area for the past 22 years. He has served for the past five years on the hospital’s Operating Board. Dr. Rao graduated with honors from medical school in India, completed a SUNY affiliated residency in Brooklyn, NY, and a clinical research and administrative fellowship in cardiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
Joyce Rodgers: Joyce Rodgers is a dedicated member of the Henry County community, serving on numerous boards throughout the area including the hospital’s Operating Board for the past seven years as well as the hospital’s Affiliation Steering Committee. She currently represents the board on the hospital’s Performance Improvement Committee. Rodgers retired from a distinguished career as the county nurse manager of the Henry County Health Department.
Todd Schmidt, M.D.: Dr. Todd Schmidt is a board-certified physician of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Since he joined the hospital’s medical staff 18 years ago, Dr. Schmidt has served in numerous leadership roles in the past, including chief of staff, chief of surgery and as a member of the hospital’s Affiliation Steering Committee. Dr. Schmidt is a partner of Southern Orthopaedic Specialists.
Charles F. Scott, President & CEO, Henry Medical Center: Charlie Scott joined the hospital administration team in 2007 as president and CEO. He has over 36 years of experience as a healthcare executive, 13 of those years as a hospital CEO. Scott received his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and his MBA from the University of Chicago.
Sheryl Simpson-Jones, M.D.: Dr. Sheryl Simpson-Jones is an active member of Henry Medical Center’s medical staff. Over the years, she has served on multiple committees including the Medical Executive Committee, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, chair of the Credentials Committee and the hospital’s Operating Board. Dr. Simpson-Jones is the owner and medical director of Women’s Health Specialists at Eagle’s Landing.
