Dr. Prater received his undergraduate degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1985. He graduated from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 1989 and then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he completed his internship and residency in Internal medicine at Loyola University Medical Center from 1989 to 1992. He remained at Loyola University following his residency to complete a fellowship in Cardiology (1992 - 1995) and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology (1995 - 1996).
He served as a Clinical Instructor of Medicine between 1992 and 1995 and was then nominated and served as Chief Cardiology Fellow 1994-1995. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at Loyola University between 1995 - 1996 before accepting a position to join The Atlanta Cardiology Group in 1996.
His primary interest is in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and he is an active member of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology, and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
