Dementia Caregiver Support Groups
For family and friends of Older Adults with Memory Loss These monthly support groups are for the caregivers of older adults with memory loss. Designed to be both informational and supportive, these groups provide a confidential and welcoming atmosphere for family members and friends who want to learn more about dementia. The emotional, medical, legal, and financial aspects of this condition are discussed at every meeting. They are open to anyone in the community: Every second Thursday from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Buckhead, 76 East Wesley Road NE; Every fourth Monday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Wieuca Road Baptist Church near Phipps Plaza, 3626 Peachtree Road NE. Every 3rd Wednesday at 1:30.
Dementia Caregiver Workshops
Sixty Plus offers workshops that provide invaluable education and support for family members and friends who are caring for an older adult with memory loss. The Diagnosis of Dementia Workshop topics include practical information about understanding dementia, emotional issues, legal/financial concerns, community resources, and using the health care system. The Managing Dementia Behaviors Workshop covers communication techniques, reducing agitation, and the role of medication in managing the behavior of someone with memory loss. These workshops are not appropriate for professionally employed home care workers, nor for employees of assisted living or nursing homes. They are for family and friends only.
