Africa F. Wallace, M.D. obtained a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Harvard University. She received a medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Dr. Wallace completed general surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital and cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Pennsylvania. Dr. Wallace then completed postgraduate training as a minimally invasive thoracic fellow at UPMC.
Dr. Wallace joins Piedmont Heart with 10 years of education and surgical training. She is a thoracic surgeon who specializes in all areas of thoracic oncology including lung cancer, esophageal cancer and mediastinal malignancies. Dr. Wallace is involved in the multidisciplinary management (combined chemotherapy/radiation/surgery) of thoracic cancers as well as benign conditions of the thoracic cavity. She has special interest in minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
Dr. Wallace is a member of several organizations including the Society of Thoracic Surgery, Women in Thoracic Surgery, American Medical Association and the Association of Women Surgeons. Her research interests include racial disparities in the surgical management of thoracic cancers and clinical outcomes as they pertain to minimally invasive approaches to pulmonary and esophageal surgery. In her spare time, Dr. Wallace enjoys volunteering for community organizations.
