Piedmont Hospital offers a variety of classes and events for Older Adults wishing to maintain an independent lifestyle and improve quality of life including:

AICD & Pacemaker Support

Fuqua Heart Center of Atlanta at Piedmont

An ongoing support/education group for individuals with automatic internal cardiac defibrillators and/or pacemaker implants. Meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Arthritis Aquatics

This class is a recreational program that is conducted by trained personnel through a series of specially designed activities which can help improve joint flexibility and muscle strength that may have been lost due to arthritis . The warm water and gentle movements can also help relieve pain and stiffness. These classes are also open to the community and free to members of Piedmont Hospital Health and Fitness Club. New participants will need a consent form from their doctor.

Cardiac Support Group

Addresses the psychosocial and emotional issues related to cardiovascular disease, as well as medication, stress management and social and leisure pursuits. Meets for one hour on Wednesdays and Thursdays, at 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and on Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m.

This free community workshop is to educate and assist individuals and their families with the completion of a Critical Conditions planning guide.

Dementia Caregiver Support Group - For family and friends of Older Adults with Memory Loss

These monthly support groups are for the caregivers of older adults with memory loss. Designed to be both informational and supportive, these groups provide a confidential and welcoming atmosphere for family members who want to learn more about dementia. The emotional, medical, legal, and financial aspects of this condition are discussed at every meeting. Every second Thursday from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Buckhead, 76 East Wesley Road NE; and every fourth Monday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Wieuca Road Baptist Church near Phipps Plaza, 3626 Peachtree Road NE. Grandparenting Class

This class is for grandparents-to-be and covers the major changes in maternity care in the last several years, newborn care, and information on feeding with emphasis on family support. Grandparents may also attend maternity tours at 7:30 p.m. Meet in the second floor lobby of the 77 Building to begin the tour. If you are not attending the tour the class begins at 8:00 p.m. in the McRae Auditorium.

This free class is for those planning to have total hip or total knee replacement surgery . Be sure to bring the informational packet from your physician to class. You are encouraged to bring one family member with you. It is best to schedule your class as close to the surgery date as possible. Please let us know if you need a wheelchair.

Learn the warning signs, symptoms and risk factors of stroke , as well as tips on prevention and current treatment options. Free classes are held at the Center for Rehabilitation Medicine at Piedmont Hospital every Monday from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
