Your baby has finally arrived! At last it's time for you and your infant to get intimately acquainted, face-to-face before returning to a busy household. To help things go smoothly, we are passionate about making your hospital stay and your transition home as comfortable as possible.
Rooms and Rooming-In
Our postpartum rooms are 100% private, with individual bathrooms and showers. Each room has a fold-out bed for fathers, family members or significant others to comfortably spend the night. You may keep your baby at your bedside for as long as you wish and send him or her to the Nursery as needed. To access an online tour of our Maternity Center, please click here.
Visiting Hours
Fathers and siblings are always welcome during your hospital stay and may visit any time. Extended family and friends are asked to visit during general visiting hours while keeping the mother’s wishes in mind. For health and safety reasons, siblings will be screened for illness by a nurse, and we ask all visitors to wash their hands before handling the baby.
Education
You can view educational programs from the comfort of your bed using your in-room television. These programs cover subjects such as breast-feeding, postpartum care, infant safety and your baby's first days—important information for both first-time and veteran parents. Our maternity and nursery staff is also on hand to provide gentle guidance.
Birth Certificates
Before you are discharged from the hospital, you will be asked to complete a worksheet for your baby's birth certificate. You may also request a Social Security number for your baby by indicating so on the worksheet. To obtain a certified copy of the legal birth certificate, please access the Georgia Department of Human Resources’ Vital Records department website.
Returning Home
During your regular check-ups, you and your doctor will discuss the number of days you should expect to stay in the hospital. At the end of your stay, your doctor will meet with you to determine whether you are ready to go home and will prepare your “discharge” order, which is required when leaving the hospital. The following checklist will help you and your family have a safe, happy and confident homecoming:
