NEWNAN, GA. (December 21, 2011)—David N. Copelan, PharmD,
has been named pharmacy director for Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Dr. Copelan comes
to Piedmont from Southern Regional Medical Center, where he served as clinical
manager and neonatal clinical specialist. In his new role at Piedmont, he is
responsible for the management of the hospital’s medication management system
and oversees a staff of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who tend
to the pharmaceutical needs of the patient population.
“Dr. Copelan’s background in both clinical pharmacology and public health
administration make him valuable asset to our pharmacy program at Piedmont
Newnan Hospital,” said Piedmont Newnan Hospital president and CEO Michael
Dr. Copelan has over 21 years of hospital pharmacy experience including 11
years in management roles. He completed his doctor of pharmacy at Mercer
University, in Atlanta, Ga. and pharmacy practice residency at the Medical
College of Georgia. He completed his master of public administration at Columbus
State University, in Columbus, Ga. He is a past president of the Georgia Society
of Health-systems Pharmacists and is a fellow of the American Society of
An Atlanta native, Dr. Copelan was born at Piedmont Hospital. He and his wife
Melinda have lived in Newnan for the past 11 years and have two children, ages
five and ten.
